The mission of the National Alliance on Mental Illness Chicago is to provide hope and improve the quality of life for those whose lives are affected by mental illness.This presentation will provide a background on NAMI Chicago’s outreach program, highlight issues our community is facing with mental illness, and discuss the benefits of training community partners in awareness and response.

Kasey Franco, MA - Director of Training & Education

Kasey Franco oversees and executes mental health training with law enforcement, corporations, faith and community based organizations, and other entities. Kasey joined NAMI in February of 2017. She earned a Master of Arts degree specializing in Forensic Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and Psychology from Northern Arizona University. Kasey has experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma and mental illness in the criminal justice system, residential settings, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, outpatient centers, and community mental health.

Rachel Bhagwat - Director of Growth & Engagement

Rachel leads key initiatives around NAMI Chicago’s growth, including overseeing communications, fundraising, special events, and the volunteer and ambassador program. She coordinates organization-wide to develop strategies around community engagement, building financial sustainability, partnership development, and donor cultivation. 

Rachel has worked in the non-profit sector for more than ten years. She began her career providing direct service to young people in after-school programs in Evanston, and after receiving her Bachelor’s, spent a year working with children and families in a community center in Peru. Rachel later led mentorship programs throughout Chicagoland with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Prior to joining the NAMI Chicago team, she spent spent three years managing community engagement and advocacy at La Casa Norte, an organization serving youth and families experiencing homelessness.  

Rachel is originally from Livonia, MI.  She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Psychological Services and Spanish from Northwestern University, and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.
